Hi all,
I asked a school over in China for some more information and they asked me for the usual stuff (copy of my passport, resume, copy of my visa, etc.) and a "CV".
What the hell is a CV? A cover letter? |

Search the following for more in depth discussion:
1. General Middle East Forum -"What Format for a Resume"
2. General Discussion - "Critique for my Resume"
Both in march 2009 on Daves. |

Yeah, I put in a search here for "CV", but got nothing.
But thanks for the answer! |

cv alone is probably not enough search parameter. Try cv AND China, or maybe cv AND resume AND China. Give the search function something more to go on, whether you do it here or on Google. |

It took me a while to figure out that CV means Curriculum Vitea as well.
If you don't know what that is, it would be helpful to look it up.
Also, it isn't dumb to not know what that is. In the US we pretty much only use resumes. |

For all practical purposes, a CV is a resume.
Just what they call it on the other side of the ocean.
No biggie, welcome to the forums!
Best,

A resume for snooty people.
There are, actually, differences between a CV and a resume:

Not British business English, no sir.
I've never heard that term used before in the US. |

In the USA, CVs are generally used by professors and people who work in academics--other than that a resume is used. A resume is usually shorter and a CV is much longer and covers a lot more details. (I had never heard of a CV until I was in graduate school and was explained the difference). |

I used to have a resume. Then, I got a PhD and now I have a CV.
The primary differences between a resume and a CV are that CVs include all of your publications and for CVs, length is not an issue. If I submit a resume for a job, I make it as brief as possible, no more than 2 pages. My CV, on the other hand, has everything but the kitchen sink tossed in. Mine is about 11 pages in length.
No one ever really reads an entire CV. The list of publications is at the end and really just provides a page counting exercise (Wow! This guy has 12 pages of publications!). |
