Hello Guys,
HCT calls to check whether I would acccept an offer for X amount, and I ask for more, do they usually get back with their final offer? |

I dunno, but may I suggest that you negotiate until they make an "XXX offer"!

You were given your final offer. How many times has that been explained on these forums! HCT doesn't negotiate. |

Not often, but if you have stellar credentials or something extra to offer, I know a few who have managed to bump up the salary a bit. But, if you are just a basic MA + 3 or 4 years of experience, there is little chance.

mahdy5 - consider this - even those with PhDs don't get anything extra, or rather there is no salary increase upon completing one's PhD as an employee as there is with completing your master's. A PhD might be able to negotiate a bit extra before signing on the dotted line. |

Hi Mahdy.
My guess is that very few people have tried that - it's an employers market, and unless you have an outstanding cv you would be taking a big gamble.
Bear in mind that an MA plus a decade or so of experience makes you pretty much one of the crowd. |

Maybe if you told us what they offered, what you wanted and what your experience is we might be able to offer advice. They usually start now at 18000 a month. That was 6 month ago when I left, it may have gone up. I do know that if they have made you an offer, someone (a chair/supervisor) somewhere (Dubai, RAK, Fjh, AA) claimed you from the CV pool during a recruiting retreat, that was then sent for 'vetting' by the powers that be in Abu Dhabi, who in turn could drop you for any reason and not be obliged to inform you would be employer. It's an unique system that's be srewing HCT up for years.
Good Luck |

VG.
Ummm. I hate to disagree with you, but if they are starting people at 18, then you would have over 75% of HCT up in arms because many people who have been with HCT for 2 full contracts are not making that amount.
The people who just arrived in Jan/feb in RAK were offered around 14K a month.
Now as for the OP, I know of several people who negotiated to get a higher starting contract with the school and started between 15 and 16K.
They say they don't negotiate, but I know of several other people who have and who have been bumped up a pay grade or two. I think it depends on which school and how desperate they are for teachers and how hard you negotiate.
You can try. |

When I joined 3 years ago, they did negotiate... the difference was only AED 1.000, but then it was AED 1.000
This is the Middle East, of course people negotiate and if you sell yourself too cheap then you are not worth more anyway, this is the most likely perspective to be taken by your employer... |

I beg to differ. There seems to be some wiggle room with salaries and with benefits. However, it seems to depend on the position you are applying for. In my case both the salary and benefits package were increased (by about 3000 AED per month over a period of time). I still haven't accepted the job. |

Is your position in EFL or content? That can make a difference in negotiations. |
