| I am a 33 year old American with a BS from a University here considering taking the jump and going to Thailand to teach English for awhile. I have been doing a lot of research online and have also spoken with some people currently teaching and still am unsure as to whether or not I need a TEFL, TESOL, CELTA certificate to get a job. Does having a certificate provide you with a higher paying job? If so what is the pay difference? I'm also looking into teaching in Indonesia. Any advice, tips, etc is greatly appreciated! Thank you! |

A teaching certificate is not a necessity in Thailand. But it can open up opportunites. Many of the better schools insist on teaching certs.
See the "new required teachers liscensing course" thread for more info. |

| I think in the current climate a TEFL cert is for sure necessary. I don't think you will get much of a look in anywhere without one unless you get lucky and maybe come at the peak time (May) of year |
