So you're like me, and like everyone who's ever worked in Korea, you're looking for a job in Japan. The question is, who's hiring? What am I not looking at? To get a job in Korea, I looked at Wall Street. They're not perfect, but they're pretty cool in Korea. Who isn't being looked at in Japan? What's the secret? When I fly back to California in two months, I'm gong to apply at Aeon and Gaba. Who's missing? What would you do if you were me?

Great contribution wayne.

No, really. Is there a company newbies don't pay enough attention to when they're looking for work? I need a visa, so my options a limited at this point. I mentioned Wall Street before because they don't advertise, I kind of had to seek them out. Obviously there doesn't have to be some great secret to the Japanese job market, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

wayne's short advice is pretty well-founded. You might do him the courtesy of explaining whether you did what he suggested. There are quite a few links there.

As for the "no secret" thing, you are right. There is none. In a flooded market, you apply wherever you see openings that suit you.

If there was a secret, and it was broadcast openly here, it would no longer be a secret.

There are at least ten job advertisements from the last couple of weeks on the job board of this site. Send off your resume.

As for 'secret' companies, best thing is to do a google search and send your resume off to all the private schools you find. I did that before coming here, and although I sent it to twenty or thirty schools I got a couple of offers and at the time I only had a year of experience. I ended up coming out with a company that my friend worked for. Of course, doing it this way means you might end up with a dodgy employer. At least the big companies are fairly safe (no one mention NOVA!)

You could also sign up for the yahoo groups JET lists in the areas you are interested in. The Nagano JET list often has job vacancies advertised, but of course the vast majority are only interested in people who currently live in the area already.

So have every Tom, Dick, and Harry. What's your point, cvmurrieta? The market is flooded. It's a buyer's market.

I recommend you better define your priorities for employment. What is more important higher salary or your preferred working hours? Will you work weekends, do you mind a fairly long commute? If you are looking for a balance, define what that means to you (what do you like about Wall Street in Korea?).

It would be my advice in general for any job seeker, but also for posting looking for input. If you tell people what is important to you, you will have a better chance of being matched up with it.

My point was to suggest other web sites for the OP to look at. Even if it is a flooded market, one cannot give up a job search.
