I am considering teaching English in Japan. I have a B.A. but no TEFL certificates. I am a US citizen age 48.
I want to teach adults learners only, no children.
Many recruiters and schools seem to want a personal interview before hiring. I am in Hawaii. Are there any that do not?
Are you aware of corporations with a history of hiring native-speakers of English as tutors?
Is it best to use a recruiter? If so, are there any that specifically place teachers who wish to teach adults only?
Do any schools arrange private accomodation? I don't mind if rent is taken out of my pay.
Thank you for your advice. |

Yes. But can you blame most of them for wanting a face to face interview? Being here shows commitment. Some will do an online interview with something like Skype, but I couldn't tell you which ones.

Not by name. You'd be better off contacting a business English agency that farms out people. See the FAQ stickies for names and web site addresses.

Conversation schools, yes. Business English agencies, I don't know. Most employers will serve as your guarantor, though. If you can't get one to do that, you can always go with a place like LeoPalace21 for housing, if there is one in the area.
What sort of business specialty do you have experience in? Many agencies prefer people who know the right jargon for their customers. |

| Thanks Glenski. To answer your question I worked at an American hedge fund as an operations manager. I have been an auditor for several hotels and resorts. I also have been a bookkeeper and prepared taxes. |

| Considering the scope of your experience, I would think that if a business English agency has clients in any of those areas, they would consider you, and perhaps more than people who have only one of those backgrounds. Best of luck. |
