Well folks I am just about at the end of the line here. I just received a phone call from my school, a private language school, informing me that they must inspect my home. Apparently the provincial government of Liaoning province has informed all private language schools that they must immediately perform an inspection of their foreign teachers' residence relating to SARS. They must think we have some sort of secret SARS lab much akin to a meth lab I suppose. This comes just two days after my school boss a former FAO at the University here told me "no Chinese believe foreignors are responsible for SARS". Why am I surprised and utterly disgusted? Shocked
Can you imagine the outrage that would occur if there was some flu like outbreak in the US and the government mandated blanket inspections based on the fact you are not a US citizen? Let alone the internal uproar, the international community would jump on the human rights' bandwagon and flog it for all their worth. I am about to throw in the towel, I am no one's scapegoat or whipping boy. I teeter now between feeling like I am over-reacting and feeling righteous indignation. the only thing I am sure of right now is that I am brewing contempt in my soul for China because of this grade A unadulterated charlie foxtrot. Neutral

Hi Mr C (I'm with Egas on the 'damned if I'm going to write your whole name down' thing).

Got a message from a friend up north who went through the same thing a few days ago. He asked what medical/biological qualifications the people coming through had, how they would know if SARS was present, what samples (if any) they would be taking, and a whole bunch of other totally irrelevant but highbrow-sounding questions designed to make their heads go 'pop'.

Needless to say, they didn't come through and have since said that they're sure everything is fine. For a laugh he's insisted that a team right out of Dustin Hoffman's 'Outbreak' come through immediately. They're running for cover and he's chasing them.

Roll with it. There're bound to be a million more really dumb ideas coming up before SARS becomes tomorrows fish wrapping.

I like C, its just that I couldn't think of anything shorter that held the same meaning... Laughing
I fired off a letter to my boss asking a bunch of high falutin' questions that should put his sphincter at defcon4... if it works I'll post the letter, maybe we can come up with some sort of form letter to use in case of accidental government interference??

Holds the same meaning as chastenosferatu? That means something? Very Happy I'm coming back later with a list of potential meanings for chasen.... yeah, that one!

Sorry, but I've just gotta ask this... Very Happy

Chaste Nosetc, etc, etc means 'the virtuous unclean' or Chasen means 'the viruous unclean'?

And Uncle Jim Bishop is having a dull day? Let's play the last game on his list - Chinasyndrome. Or is everything before it the result of playing it?

Strangely, I am NOT bogged down, locked down, or lacking in things to do. I have a loooooooooooooong list of things I should be doing, I just don't want to do them. This is much more fun. But for those of you lacking in something to do, please feel free to join me on a mission. Of course, should any of you be caught or killed, the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of your action.

xiaoyu posted in the 'May we hear from NOYB, Dragon and MW' thread:
'why do I always find myself coming into the fun threads at the end?'

I proposed a 'xiaoyu support group' and I recommend that interested parties should hunt the thread down, think carefully, throw careful, cautious and helpful advice to the winds, and get a highly entertaining list of ways to help our colleague out. I'd do it, but I'm too busy answering all the other little jests I've got going at the moment (see Arioch36 and J.D. for more information).

Now I know I should work, and I know I will work, but I don't really want to work. You know you've got China Syndrome if...

So it's a kind of chaste nosferatu.....without doing searches the latter is a fictional vampire [back from the dead, but needs human blood to survive], soooo, who has recently departed this worldly site, and come back to exact revenge? "Chaste", all you English teachers know, if not from personal experience. Who'd like to take a guess?

To be exact nosferatu is the Romanian slavic word which means "the unclean". It was first associated with the plague and rats as the bringers thereof and was later attributed to "vampires" as they were seen as evil undead creatures doing Satan's work yada yada yada.
Now for the chaste part... Shocked

Trouble-shooting guide
----------------------------
Regards orig question: Just make trouble for em. chasten.
Make it more trouble than it's worth.
They tried with me for daily chemical poisonings. (I'm very allergic.)
First i went into lock-down mode: Switch off house phone, switch off doorbell, don't answer door even though they know i just came home, my locks and chains on door.
Then later a letter and a phone call to prepare to visit the Government Foreign Affiars. But didn't need letter or anything, they backed off quickly. also for another friend here they immediately backed off when he protested a ban on allowing other school teachers to his apartment.
..
I think that three other teachers running away might have something to do with their sudden co-operation. Smile
....
There's something else you can blackmail them with. Wink

Ditto. Glad you're still around, Seth. Can you bring back the Mr Bean avatar? It gave me such a strong mental picture of who Seth is - now you're a catburger.

Now this chastectetcetcetcetcetcetceetcetcetcetc needs to be gotten to the bottom of. 'C' if you're going to hit us with an outrageous name that no one can write without referring back to the source, I really think, in the spirit of international friendliness and cooperation, that you should explain yourself.

Be reasonable, okay? We've welcomed you in with open digital arms and we like having you come out to play, so I think in all fairness some recompense should be made.

Now Chaste as we all know someone who is virginal, or someone who has only practiced horizontal jogging with the person to whom they are married, or someone who is pure and virtuous (which would make this forum completely unsuitable for you, by the way), or someone (something) that is simple in style and not ornate.

The way I see it, a point 1 explanation would give us all a good laugh. A point 2 explanation would be entirely more information than we need,
a point 3 explanation means that we'll have to tell you to pack up and go to bed at 8:30, and a point 4 explanation would lead us to conclude that both names combined mean 'Simply Dirty'.

Whew! That was harder than '6 degrees of Kevin Bacon'! Now there's a thought... Is 'C' actually Kevin Bacon? Damn, we just can't seem to shift the blighter out of here!

C'mon 'C' - fess up!

Ok, since you asked nicely...
Chaste Nosferatu is something of an oxymoron.
Chaste- virginal or virtuous
Nosferatu- the unclean or vampire
Imagine a virgin vampire...
a virtuous vampire...
an unclean virgin...
I'll settle for "simply dirty" so that I'll fit in with the rest of you... Wink

I had the inspection team show up here also, but unannounced. (Liaoning Province also). My Chinese wife cut them off at the door and they never actually got in. I am also told that it is a Liaoning Province decree. Apparently they think all us foreign devils are running biological weapons labs. Rolling Eyes
