Distance DELTA - pre-course reading - any suggestions?
I'm due to begin the 9 month Distance Delta this September 2009.
I'm interested to hear any tips and notes on the best pre-course reading I can do. I'll be on holiday most of July & August, so I can easily spend 10+ hours per week reading.
Are there any books that I should order immediately? I have access to a number of language schools where I work as a freelance, teaching at all levels.
My specialist module for the course is to be Business English.
Thanks in advance.[/b] |

Are you aware that there's a reading list for the Distance DELTA?
http://www.thedistancedelta.com/information/course/book_list.aspx
Some comments I made about the list as it appeared in 2005*:

*The main updating between then and now seems to be the addition of two more books by Scott Thornbury published sometime in 2005 (i.e. after the old list had been posted and I'd looked at it then, obviously). Now I'm sure that most of if not all his books are good, but should a DELTA trainer always have what seems to be the first and last word? (What I'm trying to imply is that teacher training can often start to seem a little incestuous and inbred LOL). That being said, I'd like a look at his Beyond the Sentence (although I suspect that the CUP Conversation book he co-authored with Diane Slade is just as good if not better/meatier: http://www.cambridge.org/catalogue/catalogue.asp?isbn=9780521891165 ). |
