Most of the big hotels have well equipped gyms and usually a pool (but not necessarily one that's good for swimming laps). Those located on the coast usually have beach access as well.

The problem at present is if you can get in at all. We're hoping that something shakes loose after the rumoured summer exodus...that is, IF we lived in Abu Dhabi! Laughing

Are you male or female? Single or married? All of that determines what, where, and how much.

For a decent gym w/ a pool but no beach you have Abu Dhabi Health and Fitness. Classes are included in the membership fees. I think a single male would be around 9000 dirhams/year. You can join the club for shorter increments...not a bad idea if you are a single male. If you manage to find a woman to share a couple membership, the rates drop significantly.

If you were hoping for pool, gym, and beach all in one: The Hiltonia (well over 11,000 dirhams for a single male while a single female pays around 7200 annually), the Sheraton, the Intercontinental, Beach Rotana...they all charge about the same. I belong to the Hiltonia, and while the gym is fine for me, the weights area is tiny compared to somewhere like AD Health and Fitness.

Hope that helps!

Day visits all depend upon the time of year and number of visitors there. I believe "The Club" (aka The British Club) requires a member to sign you in...in the the very least at the weekend. A weekend day pass to the Hiltonia (you'd still have to pay even if a member signed you in on a Friday) runs about 150 dirhams. If it's really busy, the club will refuse all non-hotel guests and members.

The Club is cheaper than many other beach clubs. A male colleague of mine waited 4 months to get in. It's kid-friendly, so there are a lot more families. Food and drink, however, are much cheaper than the other beach clubs in the area.

This was on another thread two weeks ago. Lots of beach club information.

Not sure about rocking up - you can get jailed for that in these parts.

I really should edit rather than add yet another post, but it's late and I'm tired. Smile Meant to mention that there are 2 lap pools in Abu Dhabi that I'm aware of. The Officers Club (you can join or you can purchase swim time exclusively...recommend the latter-it's not a nice club IMHO) and what I think is called Al Jazeera Club (??). Maybe someone else can fill in the real name. It's just off of Muroor between 15th and 19th, I think. I went there, but I wasn't impressed. As a woman I really would have had to stick to the women-only times. There were lots of kids doing lessons, and the general pool area was very run-down.

You can pay a day rate for The Club but you need a member to sign you in and it costs about 70dhs during the week and about 140dhs at the weekend. That wouldn't entitle you to use the gym either.
Not sure what you mean about membership reqs being steep but if you mean the cost its actually the best deal in town. If you mean becoming a member, there is a waiting list but it would be worth putting your name down asap, IMO.
