Warning, do not apply to work for this school.
While I was in Canada I accepted a job at this school. I came and worked for 2 months. While here I insisted on obtaining a legal visa. The school was raided and the foreign teachers caught were arrested and fined.
It turned out this school could not legally hire foreign teachers. They fired all the foreign teachers without compensation as per the contract. They said since they could not hire foreign teachers, the contract was illegal so they did not have to honour the contract.

That just goes to show, as another example, that you should arrive in China with your legal documentation and avoid such issues.

What was the fine? How long were you detained for? Out of interest.

I feel sorry for the OP. From my own days in GZ, I remember Huangpu as being one of the more down-and-out parts of the city, full of factories and shipyards, to me personally, one of the least attractive parts of an otherwise nice city.

Considering that this school is ostensibly a government school, it would have been absolutely a simple matter for them to obtain the requisite permits from all levels of government. Perhaps one of the GZ members might share their knowledge here of the school or the district.

That is because officials that have been handling the case have received bribes. The law says that the school should pay half wages as well as return tickets back to point of origin; all teachers should have been deported, or given a 20 days up to 3 month opportunity to find a legal employment.
GZ has it own way to handle laws ...

We were just held over night. The fine was RMB 10,000, and passports were confiscated until the school paid their fine.
i do not know what the school's fines were.
This is a private school claiming to be part of the "IBO" school system.
I have contacted the IBO, and they never heard of this school.

I believe legal actions are being taken by the IBO school system to shut the school
