I already have CELTA, and I just finished up my associate's degree from Excelsior College. Since I now meet the AA + TEFL certificate requirement to get a visa for Taiwan (at least I think), I'm thinking of heading over there next month. Five years in Korea has been more than enough and I'm ready for a change.

Now, according to the link that someone provided in another thread here, Excelsior College is on the list of Taiwan-recognized colleges.

However, what worries me is all this talk of "no distance degrees." I actually did not do all of my degree by distance (I did 60 credits out of 100 in brick-and-mortar schools, in fact), but my school is well-known as a distance school/transfer school for adult learners.

What concerns me more is that University of Phoenix, a notorious distance school, is on Taiwan's acceptable universities list. Therefore, I'm questioning the list.

Does Taiwan make a big fuss about a distance degree for teaching at a buxiban? I'm not trying to get a job at a public school or university here, just a buxiban. Do they care for visa purposes?

By the way, before anyone says that I bought a degree, I didn't, I worked VERY hard for it and got 100 credit hours through legitimate, accredited means, and the degree is completely accredited in the US.

In theory you should be able to LEGALLY teach in Taiwan. But.... maybe the powers that be will deem otherwise. I think you will be okay but I can't be sure. And they do seem to be cracking down on suposed illegal degrees lately. There is only one way to find out though.
