Is the school you work in safe?
Yes, I would trust my own kids safety there.

I'm sure that most of us that live in Mexico are aware of the tragedy that occurred in a Hermosillo day care center last Friday. 40 children died as a result of a fire that started in a tire/auto establishment and spread to a private daycare center.

Now the focus seems to shift to safety regulations and inspections. This daycare center had and passed an inspection on May 26, 2009. Less than two weeks before the fire.

Rescuers said that the emergency doors didn't open and that the alarms failed to activate.

Sadly, poor safety and training seem to be a way of life in Mexico. At one school which I worked (A combined kinder-elem-secondary school) that was 4 stories tall, there was only 1 doorway in or out. There were few fire extinguishers and no sprinklers.

I've posted a poll in regards to school safety. How safe do you feel your school(s) are in regards to fire, earthquake, disaster, and overall safety?

Sad but true.
