You may not be able to even get a job so easily if the swine flu becomes a pandemic. Notice all the main English speaking countries have the most number of cases.

People are putting down fears as being overhyped media. Like any media, it is, unless you happen to be one of those affected, or even dead.
Watch this space.
PS: I only make this posting because I know some teachers have not had their contract renewed or their jobs limited and contact with their family wishing to go over to Japan to visit them restrained.
PS2 : Before anyone trashes this overhype fear, just think. If even one student gets the flu, it could mean closing down the school. Your school may never get to recover the loss of students thereafter.
Let us know how this overhype media has or is having any affect where you are. The more that is spoken、the more vigilant we can be. I don't like it when WHO and large organisations do a lot of things behind closed doors. (does that include JEM and BOEs and large eikaiwas ? ) |

I would say that the swine flu panic, or the first wave at least, has been and gone in Japan. Back in May the number of new cases spiked and there was a lot of focus on it, but as soon as people realised it isn't that serious an illness in most cases and especially when North Korea started rattling its sabres again the media focus shifted and I don't think that people here are that worried any more.
starteacher, can you back up the claim that you know teachers who have not had their contracts renewed because they are from a country with a large number of swine flu cases? That would be quite an issue if it's true. Which schools, and was this stated directly to the people involved? |

The swine flu hasn't affected my school one bit. Some students were nervous about traveling abroad on vacation, despite the fact that the regular flu kills many more people every year. |

One uni I work at issued a warning that if a case became known within the school that we would close for a week. In a similar vein, several schools closed during the last two school years over cases of German Measles.

My wife was the opposite; she happily booked our trip to France for this July. |
