I know this question has been asked before, but I have been seeing conflicting information.

I have an associate's degree in Nursing from an accredit college in the United States. I want to work in Vietnam. Am I legally employable or do I NEED to have a bachelor's degree. Also, I plan on taking a CELTA course on top of my associate's.

Does anyone have an answer, or is there anyone or anywhere that someone can recommend to get in contact with to get a definitive answer to this question?

Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,

I am in the same boat as the OP to this thread, except I really don't have a degree yet. Is it possible for me to find work? I am looking at this as a career I would be interested in keeping. Eventually I'd like to continue my education but right now I want to do something productive with my life and Vietnam looks like a place that I could get some life and work experience done.

The Vietnamese governement requires you to have at least a bachelors degree to teach English and some kind of formal training with certification.

Stern: if you want to do something productive with your life, go back to school.

You can get a job without a degree. Though it is not a legal approach, people do it, and have been doing so since the country opened to foreigners.

If you are going to finish school, then finish school. New laws and regulations, and the enforcement of old rules can make the environment here uncertain. This year, for the first time really, I am required to produce additional documents and papers and carry with me a license. The writing is on the wall, and it won't get easier, I assure you that.

Green Acres sees what I and many others are seeing. With more and more people coming to teach, VN can start enforcing regs and also raise the bar to where it's fair for the bar to be raised.

I'm not saying that a 4-year BA/BS makes anyone better, necesarrily. I've seen a lot of great teachers with no university education at all.

But with more and more arriving, the bar is being raised.

You can still teach here. This is a certainty. But don't plane on long-term teaching in Viet Nam.

To reiterate once again:

Work Permits are requiring a B.A. or B.S.

No, it does NOT matter what your Associates is in, because, it's not a BA.
