do i have to pay residential tax if i'm not paying into the pension scheme? my husband says he doesn't think i do......i'm always confused in these matters and he doesn't know much either??

If you live or have lived in the city that issued the residential tax, then yes you do. The pension is a completely separate issue. |

Yes, you do I'm afraid. I have never paid into the pension scheme in the 11 years I've been here because I have mostly had a number of part time jobs, but I've always had to pay juuminzei- around 8% of my previous year's income these days. |

You reside, so why wouldn't you pay tax on that?
Pension can be mandatory (through shahai hoken) or voluntary (if you are not on shakai hoken). If one is planning to be here 3 years or so, it doesn't hurt to pay into the pension plan, because you'll get most of it back. |
