Hello,
I posted before, saying I will be taking the CELTA in Paris this August then looking for teaching work there from September onwards. I'm an EU citizen so working papers aren't a problem, but I don't have any formal teaching experience. I do however have a few years management experience behind me here in the UK where I currently live and work.
My original question was about how easy (or not) it is likely to be for me to find work, but I guess thats been answered now not only by some of the people on this forum, but also by a good few responses I've had from companies who I've sent my CV out to, who have asked me to go for an interview when I get to Paris, as well as one phone interview I've already had. So now I have a new question...
More than one of these companies/schools asked for my "salary demands" ie what hourly rate I would expect. And I'm really not sure how to pitch this...obviously I want to get as high a rate as possible, they want to get teachers as cheaply as possible etc etc. I also imagine that when you're working on a non-fixed amount of hours per month, you're more likely to get employed for more hours if you're on a low rate of pay...so it could work out better to accept a lower rate if it translates into more money via more hours.
So has anyone got any advice for what sort of approach I should take? My guess would be that the most I could ask for would be 23euros per hour gross, and the least I should go for would be 13euros per hour gross - but I'm really not sure. And if someone could remind me how much they deduct for taxes in France (is it 20%?) that would be great too. |
