human? Do you say "hju" or "ju" (as in you) in the first syllable of this word? Is only the first one, "hju", considered correct? That's what my dictionary says. For some reason, I have found that I say "ju" as in "you". Are both forms used, or have I lost something (that little puff at the beginning) after a long time away from home?

I say "hyuman", but won't vomit in disgust if I hear "hoo-man".

I always saw the latter as "more American" - although I have no justification for it.

Hey, youman.

Yes, youman, being so new, man, it's high time you grew, man, stop doing what you do, man, get out of your zoo, man, start thinking things through, man, get on with what's true, man.

Next chorus, anyone?
Regards,
Blueman John

Reminds me of that crazy guy on Pilot Guides who pronounces words like museum as moo-zeum. Drives me crazy.

One time an American criticised me for pronouncing the h at the beginning of "herbs". He said, "It's erbs, not herbs."

I said, "If you're going to be like that I'll just get me 'at, get on my 'orse and go 'ome. 'Ave a 'appy 'oliday. Laughing

Ah, I love it. We humans can't even agree on how to pronounce the name of our species. Now that says a lot about homo sapiens sapiens, doesn't it?
