I got this idea from another thread.
I used to buy Dr.Pepper in the 2 litre bottles at Carrefour, but haven't seen any on the shelves in about 2-3 years now.It was a hit and miss type product.Ocasionally,I 'd come across the 350ml cans in Poznan but it was also hit and miss.
Have never seen Root Beer here. The Poles don't like the taste of it for some reason.Ginger Ale is also very rare. They used to sell it at Auchan, but that was a few years ago.
Any type of tacos or nachos are gonna cost you for some reason.Small bags typically cost 8-14zl,depending on the brand.
The lack of beef steaks has been mentioned before. What about marshmallows? For a country whth such a sweet tooth, marshmallows are lacking. You can buy the candy/coloured variety for children, but thet aren't the same.
I like maple syrup(even imitation stuff) on my naleszniki, but Polish shops only sell the imported stuff from Canada, which is very good and genuine, but ridiculously expensive. You'll pay more than 20zl for a tiny bottle in most shops. |

I can't find Crown Royal here. It was over 300zl in a shop but they sold the only bottle before I was able to get my hands on it.
What about licorice and Mac & Cheese? Can't ever find it here in Warsaw! |

I see Crown Royal at Tesco quite regularly.I would never pay 300zl for it though.I think at Tesco it's 120zlish for a 0.7 bottle.
Never seen licorice here.I've come across those little licorice candy things, but no real licorice.
You won't find any instant mac and cheese here. It's simple to make your own and it tastes much better.Buy pasta and then melt one of those small, soft, foil packaged blocks of ser zolty.Mix it all together with a little butter and a touch of milk and there you have it!
I hope you're not lactose intolerant! |

Mr.Lund,I've seen Crown Royal at the huge Tesco in Katowice, many times.I'm sure one of the bigger Tescos in Warsaw also carries it.I'm not talking about one of those former "Leader Price" Tescos, but a real Tesco.Check it out and tell us how your hunting went.
Mr.Maniak, you are absolutely correct. The pasta sauce in Poland is too sweetish and untomatoish(hey....I can make a new word;can't I?) and I don't like it at all I don't want chili flavoured tomato sauce or smokey flavoured;simply a tomato tasting sauce.
Some Ragu or Catelli or another good brand would go a long way here.
You are also spot on about the ground beef.In Poland, they like that porkish/chickenish ground beef mix, which is not real ground beef.Sometimes, you can come across real 100% ground beef at the hypermarkets, but the quality is low and it's expensive. You'll find lots of gristle in that ground beef. |

The lack of beef is the same in the CR. It's got to do with the expense of raising vast numbers of cows, and import fees for beef from abroad. I think people in this region just aren't used to beef as a staple - it's far more pig/chicken oriented:)
My Czech in-laws are leery of beef in general - I think they're pretty typical. |

Beef is crap in Romania too. Lamb is more or less non-existant (except around this time of year, it being the traditional Easter meat). They mostly eat chicken and pork here. Luckily I have an excellent Turkish butcher's down the road which does some lovely cuts of lamb and will happily prepare it however you want.
I got myself a simple manual meat grinder last year and now I do all my mince with that. It really takes no time at all and you can buy some decent cuts of meat and know both what you are eating and that it's fresh! |

Mr.Lund, good luck, and am looking forward to your report back here to headquarters! p.s......wouldn't the 24 hour Tesco always be open??
The other gentlemen are correct about the beef situation.Buying a meat grinder is a good, inexpensive way to make you own mince.
Those grinders can be bought for 30zl or so at the markets. |

24 hours won't apply to holiday weekends, right:)
Hey, did you guys all get Easter Monday off? I can't remember if it's true in the CR, but here in Netherlands, any excuse for a holiday seems to suffice...lucky for me. |

Easter Monday is next Monday here. They take Easter very seriously and it's at least on a par with Christmas. Lots of people have the whole week free...including me |

Both are available at Kuchnia Swiata. The licorice only from time to time but the instant mac and cheese is there all the time.

If you can PM me some product names, I can check availability with Poland's largest car parts company.

If you mean India Pale Ale, John King Polska will be able to sort you out, they have (or at least had last time I checked) the Greene King IPA. For good everyday lager try Perla from the Lublin brewery. Belgian ales are also imported by John King Polska. A lot of what John King Polska import can be found at Bomi and Piotr i Pawel supermarkets. Alternatively you can just give them a call.
Coffeeheaven do a good one. Although their caramel brownie tower is far far better.

Kuchnia Swiata stock Newman's Own.
