Though there's probably another thread like this already....
I want to go to Shenzhen this July and start working. Is that stupid? Are there many jobs there? What's the pay like (and on down the list of general questions).
Yeah it's tough being a noob. |

Yes, it's a bit stupid, but no, it's not as well. If you want to work at a middle or primary school or any kind of "real" school they will all be closed for the term when you get there or will be gearing down and not hiring, except for next term of course. However, private training centers will be gearing up for summer classes and there will be lots of opportunities. Shenzhen, by Chinese standards, is incredibly expensive. There are ways to live "economically" but it takes a while to learn them. When renting an apartment, for example, you will need to produce 3 months rent up front, 2 of which are a "deposit." Very few schools will give you a place rent free like in most places in China. If you are young and adventurous Shenzhen is probably a pretty cool place. I'm 49 and not as into adventure as I once was. Just make damn sure you bring a lot of money with you and you'll probably be OK.
Check out the "Shenzhen Stuff" website. Google it. Easy to find. Lots of good info there. Good luck. |

Shenzhen is a decent place, I enjoy it anyway. best chance for a job would be n a middle school or in one of the private language schools.
As dakelei noted, check out shenzhen stuff. There's a group on there for english teachers and someone can steer you in the right direction towards a job. there's also a classified section and usually at least a few people on there advertising apartments for sublet, or looking for room-mates.
good luck. |
