I have no teaching experience but I just finished the CELTA course (pass) and I have a B.S. I've been reading posts here for the last year about employment in Indonesia and I'm still a little confused about the situation.
I plan on applying for jobs in Jakarta, Bogor, and Surabaya. I'll be sending resumes out to language schools this week. The only ones I really know of are TBI and EF. I've had people on this forum tell me to aim for schools other than EF since their pay is kind of crappy and I do have a CELTA. But I don't really know about many other schools that hire teachers without experience. I would have liked to work for KELT in Surabaya but my timing is off for this next quarter. Should I just suck it up for one year and work for EF or TBI and look for better pay after 12 months? Are there other schools (in the 3 cities listed above) that I should be sending resumes to?
Again, thank you for any advice/info!! |

Hi alc
Only an opinion but I reckon you should send your CV out to anyone and everyone and see who bites. I think that getting a years experience at EF is no bad thing to start with and then progress from there to other places with more salary and/or benefits when you have the experience to support your application.
Although choice can be overwhelming, I am sure that with a range of jobs in front of you comparing them will lead you to the right decision.
Good luck |

I can only speak for Jakarta but there are plenty of language schools to go for. Here are few for you to Google.
EEC, Inlingua, EF, TBI, ILP, Direct English, Wall Street, Berlitz, AIM for English and there are many more.

Thanks for the info. I googled Indonesia language schools and found a list for each city. I'll be sending those resumes out on Monday! |
