I got an offer from Shanghai Dianji University.
The contract consists of:
20 Hours per week
10,000 RMB
1,000 RMB Housing allowance.
It's located in the southern part of the Minhang District. Does anyone have experience with this school, area of town, etc? Can I negotiate for more housing allowance?
I'm an American with two years teaching experience in China and a B.A. How does this offer sound? Can I get better than this in SH? Thanks. |

I'd push for 12k salary and 3k housing and see what you can get. |

"Dian Ji" translated into English means "electricity and machinery". In other words, you probably will be teaching classes that are more than 90% boys, many totally unmotivated and uninterested in your lessons. But if you are lucky, you may teach English majors or, if you are really lucky, secretary majors. What happened to the nice apartments on campus that they provided to FTs? There isn't much to recommend off-campus in that area of Minhang...it wil probably take an hour and a half to get to People's Square via Light Rail transferring from line 5 to line 1...and the Light Rail doesn't run after 10:30 pm. If you just want to relocate to Shanghai, maybe you can opt for a one semster contract before committing yourself long term. |

Question: does light rail run much slower than the regular subway lines, if at all? |
