Nice man in the newspaper says that Dubai is a slave society ecological disater zone cesspit with horrendous record of human rights abuses and an expat class of drunken incompetents:

As someone who is thinking about going to work their I'd be interested in opinions.
Does it bother you? Or is the turning a blind eye described here an realistic portrait of peoples attitudes? |

And YOU just dredged up this piece? A good read. Why don't you come here and clean this place up, slaqdog?

Dear slaqdog,
"Dubai is a slave society ecological disater zone cesspit with horrendous record of human rights abuses and an expat class of drunken incompetents."
But don't forget - there ARE downsides as well.
Regards,

Johnslat-yes I thought so- it did sound too good to be true; they ruined that barren desert didn't they?
NCTBAA -'just dredged it up?' As I said I am kooking at possible work for next Sept-the article was published in Tuesday's Independent a UK national newspaper not really any dredging involved. I am a Teacher! Why would I want to come and clean it up? The moral side of making money based on other peoples' misery interests me; is the money worth it? |

I can't be bothered to read the link as there have been so many reports like this recently that I'm sick of them. Whilst I am sure there is a lot of truth in most of them it is typical of the British media - let's build something up just so we can knock it down later. Plus there's the element of schadenfraude that a lot of expats are getting their 'just desserts' after having it good for so long. Finally I would say there's been a lot of this because the papers want to show - look it's not just us who are having a hard time at the moment. It's just taking a cheap shot basically...
Rant finished. |
