What educational technology is used in the classrooms at HCT? Do you get an training in advance? I am not a technophobe but I have only used powerpoint/internet for teaching purposes. Reassurances welcomed! |

HCT is a known institution that requires highly qualified teachers and technologically savvy. In reality and on te ground, teaching and using ICT is a joke. Thus, you should not worry too much since you will be using the basics with students whom English proficiency is low. |

Thank you for your reassuring reply. When you say basics what do you mean exactly. (Sorry if come across as a bit dim). Basics is all relative depending on your current level! |

I meant by basics: From Intermediate low to really beginner levels and when it comes to Reading & Writing, the only thing I can tell you is GOOD LUCK. It is an oral culture and they love listening and speaking.
Hope it helps |

Rosetta Stone was the flavour of the month a few years back. Most campuses have at least 2 or 3 smartboards which the math teachers like to use. There are lots of computers and resources available for students to practice online (when they're not looking a fashions, perfumes or cars or youtube videos). |

They never fail no matter what course they take. It's an unwritten policy and teachers have to follow it. If you act as a professional, then they will blame you because you did not raise thier grades or did not turn a blind eye on cheating. Thus, you will be treated like a bad teacher and all students complain about you, hence all the reasons would be great to let you go.
Hope this assists, |

Not true where I work.
In English, we have online courses on BBVista which all teachers contribute materials to. Online practice materials, Smartboards in most classrooms and more to come this summer. Laptop projectors, etc. The students do expect you to be able to help them if things go wrong, especially during an online exam. There are Ed Tech classrooms where you can take your class for a lesson on a specific software, taught by the ED Tech specialist so you learn too. |

The truth on the ground has been told; nevertheless, I have to admit that exceptions exist.
P.S: When I read your post, I could easily picture those students in that hi-tech English lab. Amazing! |

Interesting... considering how many students I failed each year teaching at HCT and other Middle East universities. This was in both Foundations English and content courses.
The oddest part of it was that the students that I failed usually begged to be in my class again when they had to repeat the next semester.
