Any ideas of cost of broadband in the UAE?

It's possible your employer will finance it, but about 250dhs per month

Just doing some research. I can see that Du provide broadband service start around 180 for a basic 256kbs service. Are there any other companies that offer a good but cost effective service. Broadband seems to be very expensive out in the UAE!

In the Dubai area at least, it sometimes depends on where you are living as to whether you have only du or Etisalat. Those are really the only two choices for broadband and their prices are comparable and, of course, get more expensive the faster service you want. It may not matter to you, but Etisalat will provide you with a wireless modem, if you want (for a price of course), while du, to my knowledge, only provides wired service. Your choices for internet are du or Etisalat (sometimes you can only get one), go to a coffee shop and use their internet or go to an internet cafe.

When I had broadband service with DU, it was wireless - I may have had to buy a router, can't remember. I believe they also provide service throughout the UAE, except for a few pockets here and there... Also I distinctly remember downloading and using Skype while using DU without any problems
