I am going to self-publish an education-related book in HK. I have heard that getting a publisher in HK is easier than in many places. But after doing some research, I believe that self-publication is a better route. Many successful writers are now self-publishing, and I have read some real success stories (from authors, not printers - e,g http://davidmaister.com/blog/457/Self-Publishing--The-Reasons . It gives you more control over every aspect of the book and its production, and is relatively cheap. It also gives the writer a chance to learn the trade inside out - writing, finding a good editor, design, production and marketing and so on. It's more work, but potentially better in the long run.
My question is this. Has anyone out there done this in Hong Kong, and/or most importantly, which printers are the best? Some self-published books look cheap and crappy. I want mine to look good.
