Heading to Surabaya in October and wanted some info from people who are currently living there.

I know there isn't much in the way of nightlife and such, but what does everyone do for fun in their off hours?

Also, I like to excercise and clearly the heat and humidity can make that difficult. I assume its probably not safe to run in the early am or at night when it's not so hot. Do people utilize gyms in Indo and if so, are they affordable on a teachers salary? I'm in South America now and have no clue what to expect when I get there and what might be within my budget.

I tend to stick to the same few bars after work. And although there may not be much in the way of conventional nightlife, there's a park in the city centre that's always heaving with people of a Friday night. Very Happy

Most of the teachers I know here have joined gyms, yes. Your options for exercising here are otherwise limited. I've yet to join one because I'm lazy, but if my EF friends can afford to join, so can any foreign teacher. Wink

Gyms are very affordable by our standards. I use one of the most expensive - Celebrity Fitness (yes, I know the name is horrible)- and I pay Rp340 000 per month.

I am headed there in october as well - not enough posts for a private message, but I'd love to get in contact!

Going at it alone and would love to know someone, what school are you working for?

I'm working for EF. Yes yes, I know! My school has been pretty good to me so far, though.

So do you have a job lined up here, then?
