I applied for a 60-day tourist visa to go to Taiwan. My plan is to enter Taiwan, find an acceptable job within a month and complete the health check, and spend the second month processing things like the work permit, ARC, etc. My goal is to get everything done in Taiwan without having to go to another country.
Unfortunately, my tourist visa says "60 DAYS NO EXTENSION" on it.
Does that mean I can't change to a work permit/ARC within Taiwan, and must go to another country to get those things? Or is this standard, and do all 60-day tourist visas say that?
I asked the folks in the Taiwan Mission and they said it might still be convertible into another visa type, but they weren't sure (go figure).
Does anyone have any firsthand experience with this? |

"60 DAYS NO EXTENSION" means you can't extend your 60 day visa after you have been in Taiwan for 60 days.
This is nothing to worry about, providing your 'to be' school completes your work papers within 60 days. It usually takes them 4 weeks, so should not be a a problem. That means you have to find an employer in your first month. If you don't, you can look forward to an expensive trip to Hong Kong on a visa run.
Get your health check done the first week you arrive. You can do that without having a job and it will shorten the processing time when you get a job.

It's not that expensive, and HK is so badass that you can look at it like a positive thing! |

I'd rather not spend the money, but since I lived in HK for three years back in the day about ten years ago, I'm sure there'd be some cool catching-up to do. |

I think the question is more likely to get noticed/get a reply if I start a new thread.
Thanks for the info on the visa though, and I'll get my health check started right away. |
