in korea there were a few ATMs that i could access my money from my canadian accounts with my debit card.
are there ways to use your home debit card to acess money in HCMC?

Sure you can. Just have that Master Card or Visa logo etc on the card.

Tell your hometown bank you will be working in Vietnam and to extend the card. Some banks consider it a red flag if the person is out of the country more than let's say 60 days.

You must notify them prior to leaving or you might find your ATM card frozen by your bank after 60 or 90 days. Each bank has it's own policy.
