The worlds becoming a meaner place for efl man and woman. I notice Bell advertising for Saudi and Libya. One friend was phone interviewed for both positions. BELL offered him STER 22.000 for a 12 month contract in Libya. 1 month hols per year (really 1 month with Ramadan thrown in for good measure). The contract would also entail the teacher (possibly) being moved to another BELL center every few month. But, the interviewer added, food would be thrown in for free.
The saudi contract for Riyadh (shared accommodation, slightly better salary) would also allow for 1 month holiday but specified this should be taken at the end of the contract. So I guess, BELL EDUCATIONAL TRUST understand that man might be in need of a holiday after spending 11 months in Riyadh. But, the interviewer added, there would be no free food thrown in on the Saudi contract. What on earth have we come to !
I dont know but the recession blues carry a lot more dignity than getting some BELL Executives in Cambridge fat on the back of your sweat. Count me out |

In KSA they've been nicknamed
BELL EDUCATIONAL (NO ONE) TRUST(S)
As for the atmosphere at the institutions where they've displayed their dazzling incompetence, just replace the B with an H. |

Sure, but it would be unrealistic to expect ESL teachers - especially in the private sector - to be totally immune from the recession. No doubt Bell's profits have suffered due to lower student numbers and businesses cutting back on their training budgets. Also, teachers who have other professions may have lost their jobs and now be looking to work as ESL teachers again, meaning there are a lot more of us on the market.
I'm not defending Bell, BTW, just pointing out that this is the way things go in business. Here in the Gulf, there seems to be a definite trend towards stagnating salaries and reduced benefits. That has been going on for some years already, but no doubt the recession will only accelerate the trend. |

stagnating salaries and reduced benefits should not entail one having to wait 11 months into a 12 month contract to take a holiday.
While there obviously will be cutbacks in a period of recession, there are as many employers out there willing to take advantage of the situation. And my reading of BELL EDUCATIONAL TRUST is that they are such an employer.
I'll hang onto me dignity, thanks |

SCHUBERT, I'm with you on this.
When I was interviewed, I was told that there is a holiday in the middle of the year and that teachers receive 500 pounds sterling towards a flight at this time. Is this really the case?
Whatever the verdict, count me out, too. |

A warning to all my TEFL colleagues!!!
I was offered a job at KSU by Bell recruiters and now with all changes therethey have just told me that they offer is not valid anymore. Take care!! I have left a good job in order to join this project and finally was treated with this lack of consideration. |
