Regarding the fall semester
So I would guess that most (if not all) of the last minute jobs that hire immediately to start ASAP (like in August) would most likely be the jobs that most people didnt want....
sooo... when does the hiring season start to pick up and is there a time that you should have a job by or else you may have missed the boat on the good ones? |

Usually, yes, but by no means always.
Saudi administrators, even in the more professionally-run places, are not known for their advance planning skills. Very often, they underestimate their need for teachers and end up desperately looking for new staff in July or even August. In addition, it's by no means unheard of fornewly recruited teachers to fail to turn up - either because they have found a better offer elsewhere, or because of visa difficulties. I've more than once had the experience of sending off a CV in March or April and not receiving as much as an acknowledgement in return. And then, in July, I open my inbox to find an email from that institution which I'd forgotton even existed, asking if I would be ready to join them next month!
Having said all that, to maximise your chances of getting a decent job you need to start applying.... now! |

I recall that at the IPA, when the people who had gone to the TESOL convention in the States to do the hiring for the upcoming year returned and said something like, "Well, we hired 12 teachers," it was commonly understood that, at most, three or four of those would actually show up.

And then they make the exact same mistake the next year. And the year after that..... |

Dear Cleopara,
Well, you've almost got to admire consistency of such magnitude.

Oh, okay. So any idea when the hiring season starts peaking? It seems slow to me right now. Maybe because most of the jobs I see plastered all over the job sites are ones that have 100+ posts on Dave's about why you should stay far away. I'm bored looking at those and wonder when the better institutions are going to be more active- maybe in May? Or perhaps for the better ones YOU have to seek them out |

I've known people who were "promised" a job in April and were still waiting to get their papers processed in October. At the same time, I've known people who were contacted about the job in mid-August and were asked to show up in two weeks. There is no rhyme or reason to employment strategies in KSA. |

Like I said, for the better jobs you really need to start applying now. Don't wait for them to advertise - check their website and find the name of the HR person and send them your CV.
However, as both Mia and I have indicated, applying early is by no means a guarantee that your application will be processed early. Saudis tend to do things at the last minute and it's not at all unlikely that your CV will be ignored until they decide they need you - which could be in the summer, by which time you may have already accepted a different offer. |

Even after Dubai and Boston trips, most KSA universities will definitely not hire as many as they expect to do. So, you can send your CV any time of the year and if you got the right papers, I guess you will be contacted sooner than you think.
There is always student-teacher ratio imbalance in KSA universities' classrooms. It is typically 30/1! |

I apply to jobs throughout the year. As Cleo said, it's usually the unexpected ones that end up coming through with offers. Any time I see something interesting I apply. This doesn't mean I will take it, but it's good to get the cv out there and see what the market is like. (imho) The good jobs I've had I applied to for months, if not years, in a row. |
