Hello,

Here is our scenario: 2 Canadians travelling through out Central America. We have no teaching positions to go to, rather we would prefer to visit the school first before applying for a teaching position. As well, we are not too sure about which country we would work in, we are going to travel first, and find a location we really like and then seek employment.

The travel insurance we purchase will piggy back on the health care we get from our Canadian government, which will expire in January since it only covers us to be outside of Ontario for so many days.

What suggestions do you have for private medical insurance? Can you purchase it down there if you don't have a job? Any companies you would recommend or avoid? Any information you can give us would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

If you want local insurance, it depends on the country. Don-t know about CE, but here in Peru, you have to be a legal resident to get it.

AXA and BUPA are the best for expats I think. I've had AXA through the Association of American Residents Overseas ( Canadians are welcome too I think ) for years and it's fantastic and I've really used it a few times! Good luck!
