I've noticed that the RAFO are recruiting every year although the contracts are for two years.
Is it the isolation/boredom on the remote bases that gets to people or the politics or what?
Also can anyone offer an insight into having a female partner with you whilst you're there? Job prospects etc. for her or will I be paying for everything? My girlfriend is a Yoga teacher and I've heard that in some of the busier places there are classes if you knwo where to look but will she even be able to work on a multi-entry visa???
Any experiences along this track would be very welcome....
Thanks. |

PM Neil McBeath about this...he should post on this thread in the near future. As for the unmarried female partner (pardon my age, "female partner" does not equal wife...altho, it might be PC for wife, now). you won't be able to bring her along...she'd hafta be sponsored separately...or so I believe.

Thanks for the heads up but the female partner thing is no longer an issue although I do know the RAFO sponsor wives as long as the employee pays the fees.
Really wondering just how remote these bases can be and if it's even worth considering posts outside of cities if I don't fancy getting cabin fever.
Neil posted to a similar querie so thanks to him for that. |

Oirman,
I don't know where you got the impression that most teachers working for RAFO are working on remote bases.
It is POSSIBLE for you to be posted to RAFO Masirah or RAFO Thumrait but the vast majority of RAFO teachers are accommodated at RAFO Lansab and RAFO Ghallah, both of which are now almost in the middle of the Capital Area.
Teachers working under the RAFO aegis for the Royal Army of Oman are usually working for Force Ordnance Service, SAF Signals or the Force Medical Sevice, and again they would be working at the main garrison camp of MAM - in the capital area.
Most people in RAFO definitely finish their contracts, but there are a few who either get into trouble or who realise that they are simnply not cut out for life within a military organisation. If you have problems with authority or if, like one man, you have had 14 jobs in 15 years, then you are unlikely to last. |
