Depends on where you'll be and your budget. In the main cities, STC and Mobily do HSDPA at quite high rates but you do get a good service. The monthly rate depends on how much you want your download limit to be.
Currently, Mobily do HSDPA for:
100 SR/month - 1GB download cap
200 SR/month - 5GB download cap
350 SR/month - unlimited (subject to fair use policy)
HSDPA is where you have a mobile USB device that you connect to your desktop or laptop and surf wherever you may be, otherwise known as 3.5G.
Mobily also do WiMax which is a box that connects to the main and to your computer via USB. Not very static (although you can plug the badboy into any room with sockets!) but it is AWESOME! 300 SR uncapped downloads...ROCKS!!
Ich weiss nicht about STC's offers though.
There is also GO!, a new outfit here operating under Atheeb Telecom. I don't know much about them, but I do see many people signing up to their stalls in the various malls around Jeddah. Nor do I know what Zain offer, if anything. |

How is it a monopoly?
True, STC is the only landline telecom company, but there are several ISPs offering Internet service; Mobily offers the portable internet device (not sure what the proper name is) and Orbit offer - expensive - satellite connections. So I don't think there's any shortage of options when it comes to the internet in KSA. |

to the best of my information, they all use STC network and this is why they are still expensive. |

Maybe so, but how is this new company any different?
Plus, internet charges are not so high in KSA. They've come down quite a bit in the last few years. The prices quoted on the GO website don't seem all that low to me. |

No, Mobily uses 3.5G. others use wifi, and Orbit has a direct satellite connection that bypasses the central proxy.
I don't know the real price of the Internet in KSA now because I get it subsidized by the university for 75SR a month. Funnily enough the unsubsidized price I pay in Sri Lanka for an unlimited 512/128Kbs ADSL connection is now even cheaper than that. |

bandwidth and speed are pretty lousy for any KSA network.
Use this and compare it with the 1st world: http://www.speedtest.net/index.php?nojs=1
(don't laugh at the USA, we're trying to catch up.) |
