Does anyone know what is going on with ADEC and this new hiring process they are doing in which they need expat teachers to teach in the public schools this year ?
My understanding is that the salary is
between 12-16,000 AED per year,
there is housing provided,a furniture allowance, plane tickects, medical, health insurance, and yearly flights....BUT no baggage allowance or utilities covered....(they are saying that utilities are "only"300" AED per month)....
It is also my understanding that you would be actually teaching IN the classroom ??
There are various recruiters right now looking for such teachers such as Teachaway....
If anyone has any more information about this program PLEASE let me know as it would be helpful to me.... |

Expect to teach full time in classrooms as the main teacher, focus is on KG, grade 1 and 2. No school fee is provided if you have kids. Salary has been raised to 20,000 with experience of around 10 years plus.
teach away is the main recruiter for ADEC. Once they pre screen you, ADEC interview you direct and have the final say.
You will be one of four to five expact teachers teaching in local schools. |

Thanks for the reply.
Does anyone know if housing will be modern and comfortable?
I am single and am wondering if I will have my own flat.
What is the average salary
if you have 7 years of teaching experience ?
By the way, I noticed that there are at least 2 other recruiters
working with ADEC on this program. |

Teachanywhere hires for CfBT - you want to avoid them like the plague! Teach Away hires for ADEC. Utilities will be approx 500Dhs per month. Yes, you will be teaching in the classrooms and high school has been added to the year's requirements along with KG, Grades 1 & 2. Accommodation is always acceptable and you may have problems with air con etc., but that seems fairly normal in the UAE. I doubt you'll find yourself sharing accommodation with anyone else. |

Does this mean we teach ALL the subjects or is each teacher responsible for one subject?
Will the expat teachers be working under a PPP or directly for ADEC ? |

Teachers will work under ADEC directly, taking over from providers slowly. KG teachers will have to teach, Maths, Eglish, and Science. |

For those posted in Abu Dhabi, I would strongly recommend that you ask for specifics on the accommodation before accepting the position. If it's money, that's one thing. If they've got units set aside, best to know exactly what part of 'town' those units are located in. |

As far as I know Maths, English and Science. Secondary teachesr will teach their own subject areas. |

There was mention of Grade 1 and 2 teachers teaching thematically, thus you'd have to teach all subjects. Best to confirm when being interviewed, though. |

Apparently ADEC is looking for more student centered teachers, rather than the old direct teaching style. I hope the existing staff on the ground are as into this idea as the recruiter is. It's difficult to justify hands-on, inquiry-based, student focused teaching to people who are opposed.
They are using the Australian curriculum as mentioned in previous posts, although I imagine the biggest struggle for primary teachers will be breaking the language barrier with kids who have little exposure to English. |

So does this mean there will already be books and workbooks in place
for expat teachers to use ? |

Sahara-
If the school system in AD is anything like the one I've taught in here all schools will have textbooks, some schools will have many other resources (workbooks, manipulatives, etc.) and some schools will have barely enough textbooks for each student.
From what I've gathered the public schools in AD are as varied as they are here. (sigh)
Which basically means, be prepared to arrive and find nothing- then whatever is available will seem like a blessing!
