I have heard that both of these are good. Are there any pedagogical differences?
Are they both equally respected? in all parts of the world? I am going to Saudi Arabia this year to teach but I want to keep the door open to go back to Asia.
Is there a "young learners" module for both of them?
If I successfully complete the Trinity Cert can I go on to take the DELTA?
Please feel free to comment on any other aspect of these 2 programs or this question. |

Haven't done both of them myself, but I think the general consensus is they are of equal quality. However, you may hear that one has the edge over the other from other people. But I guess that this is just because they favour the one they experienced themselves.
Been a long time since I did my pre-service training. There was no kiddie module at all then. Don't really know about today, but I believe they both have some small, limited input sessions dedicated to YL. However, if you want a proper cert in that area, then consider the CELTYL. IH schools also have specialised YL Cert programme, but that's usually in-house.
To do the DELTA, it doesn't matter which cert you have. In fact, I think you don't even need a pre-service cert. What you do need is to have a few years' teaching experience under your belt as well as being a graduate and/or a pre-service qualification. Different centre have their own admissions policies too, though.
Hope that helps. |

I like Trinity myself - even if I have doubts about the theologiocal concept !
Trinity are "Number Two" so maybe try a bit harder. Cambridge are the "big boys" - and know it ! |

I have a Trinity. Most of the job ads I look at ask for either CELTA or Trinity, and then add that they 'may' accept other courses if they meet the minimum standard. As far as Im aware from reading info here on Daves, both do have a YL module (although this may not be available from every training provider).
You can also go on an do a DELTA. The training provider I use offer Trinity as the entry level course, and then DELTAs for trainees that go on and work within the organisation (subject to length of service etcetc)
Just also wanted to add, that Trinity and CELTA are just the organisation that approves the course providers rather than the people that write the entire course content. This does mean that courses can vary between course providers in terms on content, modules and assignments. Although Im sure there is a 'core' of material that should be taught, course providers do add or take away some parts of the curriculum too.
I had a friend who also took a Trinity at the same time as me, but with another provider (both UK based). My course had one input session (50 min lesson) on course books ... her course had a number of lessons on course books and she also had to write a review of a course book as one of her graded assignments, her teaching practice was also quite different to the approach my school took.
On that basis I would suggest it is also worth researching the training provider as well as the brand name. |

| The advantage with CELTA is that they have more training centres. |

That is a helpful thing but I am trying to get the training while I am in China because:
1. Cheap cost of living
2. I have friends in China that I can visit on the weekend.
I cannot find CELTA training in China. The phone numbers for the Beijing and Shanghai centers are not any good. |
