What are your retirement plans?
How long do you plan to work?
Are you investing or buying property?
Are you planning on coming back to your home country or retire in an inexpensive country?
Remember the keys to success:
It's not how much you earn.....it's how much you save.
(made a small correction to make people happy)

I probably won't even think about, or start planning for, retirement until I get my loans paid off--ten years from now...
I'd love to "settle" in the States, but I doubt I could buy property there. At least, not in Calornia, and not on a single teacher's salary.

No plans, other than to save as much as I can. Unfortunatley as a non-resident I can't contribute to any retirement savings plans back home. But I don't have to pay taxes there either.
I will probably work another 30 years or so. Yikes
I can't go back to the states since I'm not from there. Or is this question only for Americans? I think I'll retire in my own country. I couldn't imagine living in a third world with failing health. I think I'll want to be surrounded by family and friends when I'm in my golden years. |

Save one-third of every paycheck.
Invest in off-shore retirement plan.
Work untill I'm sick of it.
Live on beach in cheap-ass country.
Write memoirs. |

WOrk for about 40 more years. Yikes! Save as much as I can. DOn't know about mutal funds, or anything like that, so everything just goes into the bank.
Retire in South America or Eastern Europe and live decently. |

Indeed Scott, I concur, why is that we are all assumed to be natives of that blighted country?
On the subject of the op,I can say I'm at least halfway there, working only part time compared to the normal working week back home, in a better climate and a lot less stress, not bad for starters .
Invested most of my earnings in property and still got a bit put by for a rainy day ,hopefully still got 10-15 years left so its just a question of building up a nest egg and writing a book or two on this crazy industry could be a laugh or a best seller either way its sorted . |

Just remember, in most countries, pension plans are tax deductable savings. You pay taxes on the money when you take it out. If you're not paying taxes, you don't want to belong to a pension plan.
A savings and investment plan on the other hand...
Incidentally, on the long term, equity envestments always pay more than intrest based ASSUMING you buy reasonably wisely. Mutual funds are probably safest. Check out the funds that have performed well, buy and hold. |
