I was reading the recent discussion about the 29.5 hours and usage of break times in another thread.

In big eikaiwas, do teachers think they add any value ? Do Big eikawias give out bonuses ? i.e how is performance measured ?

Many eikaiwas give out year-end bonuses for things like perfect attendance, and 0 complaints from parents and other teachers, etc., which is often a little bit like chasing the carrot tied to a stick out in front of you, so to speak.

Since many people look at it as the equivalent of getting their airfare paid back to their home country (and my employer for one advertises it as such), it becomes frustratingly tempting to do things like work through serious illnesses just so as to not compromise ones chance at getting the bonus.

Thus, it is in many ways a double-edged sword, with the sharper edge being to the employers advantage.

I don't know if there are any employers who give out monthly or seasonal bonuses, but that would be IMO something a lot more attractive in a potential employment contract than the year-end bonus, for sure.
