I work for the US federal government and am being sent to the ROG as an English Instructor. I will be staying in the 'Betsy Hotel' for three months. I was curious if anyone was familiar with this hotel and its quality? I also wondered about internet service and its reliability. Finally, concerning laundry/drycleaning services, where are these available and are the costs prohibitive?
That's enough for now. If anyone actually is living there at the moment, I'd like to make PM contact.
Thanks,
Sadebugo

This is of course an excellent place to stay, especially if it's on the firmns expenses, but the idea of going to Georgia under present circumstances would make me think twice....
This unfortunate country has had a lot of ups and downs and has been economically and politically unstable since the civil war in the early 1990's.
Relations with Russia are still tense and their troops were within 30 miles from Tbilisi last summer, while internally there are continuous protests against Saakashvilis government. There is still speculation that Russia is planning further military action in the area in the near future and the best advice would probably to keep yourself updated on how things develop before making a decision to go there. |

@ Maruss - Check out this guy's blog. I think he can handle himself. How many of us wear a bullet-proof vest to class?
@ Sadebugo - How did you get started teaching for the Fed? Edit: Nevermind, I just found some other forum posts in which you answered this question. Very cool! |

Ha, ha! Yes, this will be a step up in security for me! If you have any more questions about DLI, let me know.

Are all of you guys currently living and teaching in Georgia? My boyfriend is probably going to get posted there for a peace keeping mission and I have a few questions and would like to have some contacts. |
Not yet, but I will be on one month. So, I don't really have any valuable information at the moment.

Hi,
So, Georgia is a great country. Great food. Very hospitable people. Beautiful landscape. Seems safer than half the other countries I've been to; just watch it when you go hiking alone in Svaneti or Kazbegi. Other than that you should be fine. |

Thanks for the advice! We do have others who are willing to escort us outside the city. It's a fascinating country!

It is good to see you are enjoying the country so far. I might not be able to work and will just enjoy the city for a bit. And as always, can offer any advice on the Czech Republic. I hope to meet up with you Sagebugo and again, thanks for your earlier PM's Red and White.

Does anyone know about teaching opportunities in Zugdidi? I might not be able to work and will just enjoy the city for a bit. If anyone has any input about the city or any contacts. I would much appreciate it. And as always, can offer any advice on the Czech Republic. I hope to meet up with you Sagebugo and again, thanks for your earlier PM's Red and White. |
I've been here almost three weeks now and really like it! On Sunday, I drove down to the Azeri border and visited a monastery complex. It was amazing!! I'll be putting pictures up on my site soon. Anyway, I think you'll really love it here! I know, I do.

If you're American, you can apply for DLIELC at the "USAJOBS" website.
