In all my years on this board, I don't believe that we have ever had a teacher from AUB providing any information. I doubt that they hire many expats because they have a large number of local Lebanese with good English and their own department churning out MAs in TEFL.
Have you seen an ad somewhere? I can find nothing about their program on their website... nor any openings for other than PhDs in Linguistics.

I've heard gossip that the quality has gone down a lot, and that there is a lot of cliquism in the hiring process.
It doesn't seem to feature in the International Lists of best universities as one would expect. |

I visited this campus 15 years ago. It is in a stunning location overlooking the Corniche. The whole neighborhood caters to the university students. If you didn't know better, you'd think you were in California at times. The campus is small though. I visited a friend who was doing grad studies there. He ended up marrying a Lebanese lady and moving back to the US. |

I love Beirut! The AUB campus is in a stunning location. I went into the English department to ask about jobs a couple of years ago. I looked at the noticeboards -they appeared to recruit academics who could fulfill multiple roles eg. Academic Writing and applied linguistics, Teacher training and English Literature. The number of purely esl jobs seemed quite small and were filled by teachers who were Lebanese Americans or teachers who had been there for a very long time and were married to Lebanese. They offer the best rates of pay so they have many high quality speculative applications. I got the depressing feeling that my chances of getting a job were incredibly slim. The Israelis had bombed Lebanon that year so I had thought there may have been some openings due to teachers leaving. But nobody had left. An MA TESOL and DELTA with eight years experience is probably not enough.
There are more opportunities at the AUC in Cairo if you have MA Tesol. |
