I worked there for awhile. Nothing special to do in the city, apart from the usual things - quiet a modern city though. suzhou and nanjing are near-by and more interesting. And shanghai, of course. Will you be working there? |

Wuxi is a prosperous, rather large blob of a city. The previous poster is absolutely correct. Due to a heavy foreign industrial infrastructure, there are a lot of expats in Wuxi and foreign schools and stores can be found in abundance. The Wuxi Metro is one of the larger Metro stores in China but truly pricey even by Metro standards.
Suzhou is close but Nanjing is actually about 4 hours away. Shanghai is even closer and you could even maintain a weekend flat in Shanghai and commute. I know teachers who do just that.
Please be judicious in your choice of employers in Wuxi, however. |

Google "Wuxi, China" and "algae." Read the results. Something to consider. |

I'm doing alright. I'm enjoying the long, semester break waiting for the new year to begin. Thank you for asking. |

I worked there for about 3 months. Average small Chinese city, very modern. People are semi-friendly, I lived in better places. Check out Ronnies Australian Bar downtown, Ronnie is a classic and a hell of a nice guy, use to play in a rock band there. Tell him Dave the Canadian drummer sent you, I played the best drum solo in the place |

Here's what they said about the algae in Qingdao:
Quote: |
But China, embarrassed by the most vivid proof yet of its environmental problems, says the algae is a natural occurrence, and blames the sea for being too salty, the sun for being too hot.
At a news conference earlier in the day one official suggested that algae could be good for you.
"The Japanese eat it," she said. |
You can't make that sh*t up |

Private teaching is the way to go in wuxi, lots of rich people there (especially koreans) put an ad near the international garden apartments, next to victoria bilingual kindergarten. I made good money doing just that. There are lots of foreigners there just on business visas, making a good living. Just have to go to shanghai to renew it and be your own boss. |

I'm in nearby Changzhou and thinking of visiting Wuxi for some excitement! Does that tell you something about Changzhou? Only 20 minutes on train, wonder what the time/cost is for taxi? |

The train station in Wuxi is in the city center. A quick 8 minute walk gets you downtown.
There are some things to see in Wuxi.
A giant Buddha if you like those sort of things. Lingshan Buddha, one of the 4 giant Buddhas of China. Sort of like the one in Hong Kong.
Big lake. Some parks.
Better off to spend the day in Suzhou or Shanghai really.
So far Wuxi is not an impressive or distinguished city.
Taxis are cheap. There is a Toys R Us and a Papa Johns if that excites you. |
