Hi everyone
Does anyone know if there are any good part time teaching jobs? What about uni jobs? Do you have to have an MA to teach in a university? I have a BA and a TESL from a college in Toronto and about 1 year experience.
I am thinking about coming to Turkey and working as a nanny part time and teaching part time. Some of the nanny jobs pay pretty good and I would have a nice place to live (sometimes they pay for flights too) Once I get some experience and network, hopefully find a good full time position.
What are the chances of me coming to turkey and finding a decent part time job? What would be the best cities to find a job?
Any advice is appreciated

| You can find a part time job but you are a little bit late to find a univ. part time job.. Language centers will hire you part time.. but may not be willing to help with work permit... A TEFL certificate and 4-year degree are minimums for teaching at a univ. Good luck.. Peace |

| Surely one of the reasons nanny jobs pay well is because you are expected to look after kids morning noon and night with not a lot of time off. When precisely do you expect to have time to teach and commute to and fro? Nannying seems to pay better than TEFLing but to earn good money don't you need qualifications in childcare or is it the same as TEFL? |

Thanks for your replies...
teach english, thanks for your advice..I think I will try the part time option and hopefully apply for university positions for next September.
Marquess.I have tons of experience as a nanny as well as education, so I don't think getting a nanny job would be that difficult.
I was thinking of getting a job with kids that are older and in school all day. So basically working at a language school during the day and with the kids in the afternoon/evenings.
Or my second choice would be to have a nanny job in the day and working at a language school in the evenings. I don't know what the situation is like in Turkey, but I assume that most of the classes are during the day.
Does anyone know if this is doable? |

I doubt any nanny job in Istanbul will make it possible for you to teach at the same time. How would you prepare classes? Kids stay up till 10 pm here then you would have to get early for breakfast etc. Employers are very demanding, especailly as you would earn in one week what many locals earn a month, without their overheads. What if a kid gets ill for a week? That would create probs with any lang school. They expect you to be on call or the mum may borrow you as rent-a-friend and English practice. Most jobs-whether the kids are at school or not-are 24/6. Plus distances and traffic are a real concern in Istanbul. Remember you won't earn a fortune teaching in a lang school-15tl an hour prob. Maybe you will get lucky and get some private students who are very flexible.
Why not focus on getting a good nanny job (the best paid option) and then investigate any teaching options when you get here? |

Of course it is not doable. If the kids are at school they will not need a nanny. Your employer might be just slightly put out that you are working at two jobs at the same time while he or she is paying you a full time wage and accomodation etc.
Have you any idea about legality and travelling times? |
