Hello, I'm new to the Cafe and I'm seeking information about mandatory retirement ages. I am an American with dual citizenship - born in Britain - which I'm told is an advantage in seeking employment in Europe. However, I'm a retired librarian (age 64) and I'm wondering about mandatory retirement ages. Does anyone have information or resources pertaining to this topic? Thanks! |

I think this is only applicable if you landed some kind of university, private school, or corporate position - all of which are unlikely unless you have specialist qualifications.
I'm assuming that, as a retired librarian, you won't have post-grad qualifications in EFL, or the experience in EFL specifically, to land most long-term contracted positions - they are few and far between in the field anyway, relatively speaking.
In Europe, the vast majority of teachers are contracted to private language schools. These usually offer only very basic benefits, and that won't likely include pensions. They won't likely care about your age, except as it might relate to your ability to travel around a city from business client to business client, which can be physically challenging. |

In some places in Asia after age 55, 60 or 65 employers won't get you a visa. |
