Hi- I just did a search and came up with basically nothing so I am starting a new thread.
My assumption is that cats have probably been used in Vietnam like anywhere for mousing any building like a barn or a warehouse. I also assume that although not the norm, like in the United States, cats are taken in as pets from time to time in Vietnam and that a foreign teacher could safely assume they will be permitted to keep a cat as a pet.
Anyone know anything different? Can we show up with a rabies certificate and mind our own business? Anyone know any reliable or official resources on this?
I saved my cat a long time ago and her new situation is not working out. I need to find a solution and am expecting to be in Vietnam in a month. |

Hey I had a cat shipped to me from Oz several years ago. He flew into HCMC and I picked him up at the big customs warehouse behind the old HCMC airport.
My recommendation would be to track down a customs broker. This is what I did and it allowed kitty to get through customs in about an hour. Without the broker, it would have been weeks I would imagine. The place was huge and full of people.
You need your yellow paper from the passport. They will put "maew" or however you spell cat in VN in there.
You will also need the rabies cert.
My cat had a microchip and they seemed to want that.
The customs broker will be able to walk you through all of the current requirements.
Good luck! |
