hi there,
I got a position at a school, got through red tape and got my visa.
Now, it's been a while since I haven't heard from my FAO, usually she would reply same/next day...
(I'm to show up there in late August)
I'm still waiting for any news from the school but just wondering if I can get another position with the visa issued for the previous one(if it turns out I'm no longer wanted there)
I'm already in China so I have about 25days to convert visa into residence permit and FEC...
Thanks for you help. |

Did they tell you a time to come? The person you are emailing is probably on vacation, it is summer. You should be able to just find another job if you have to, the Z visa has no info about what school it came through. I would try finding the FAO at your school, some lacky didn't get a break and probably has the cell numbers of the people in charge. |

Hi there. So you got your z-visa from the embassy in your home country, wherever that may be. You have 30 days to convert it. WHy is the school giving you the cold shoulder then? In answer to your question, no. another school can't use your z-visa as the school that got your z-visa has their stamps all over the paperwork. A residence permit doesn't name the school as someone mentioned. But, you need a valid z-visa to get the others (r.p.f and f.e.c)
That means you need to leave the country and get a new invitation letter from another school and start over if, things have gone pear shaped. |

thanks, so far 50/50...anyone else.
Yes, there's a possibility FAO is on vacation, I just stay alert.
Before this job I applied for another one, everything was fine, I was told they were about to send me the papers, then 2 weeks of silence and finaly
they wrote me back (after a few emails) that they cannot hire me....2 weeks wasted.
I'll try to contact somebody else from the school.
I was told to come around 20-25 August, but wanted to let them know I will travel around in China before showing up. I hear stories that sometimes it takes quite a while to get the permit and FEC.
I'll show up approx. 15-20 days after entering China, will this be enough time?
Maybe I get a bit to paranoid but with the chinese you never know...
Thanks! |

Um.. Very possible the FAO is on vacation. But you should have thought about your residence situation BEFORE coming to China.
It is the summer vacation so to do the residence formalities, its going to be a real hassle for some schools at this time.
Why not go to the school directly? Its possible the school found another teacher and replaced you. That happens all the time.
good luck |

Yes the process can take some time. shouldn't be longer than two weeks. My last one was processed in 2 days, but that is a well connected school. I wouldn't wait if i was you..get the paperwork sorted out first, that's most important. |

I wrote to FAO department and we'll see what's up.
I told them I would travel a bit before showing up.
At the moment I think I'll get there ASAP, get things done and travel around if there's some time left.
Just in case, how's the thing with getting another job on the visa issued particularly for the school I'm to work for, I hope...
You're positive I would need to get new one?

You could always negotiate with a new school that they pay for / reimburse you for a flight to & from hongkong on the first months salary. That's only if things don't work out once you arrive..hopefully they do! |
