Hello again.

After rejecting the Zhengzhou offer I had wrote about on a previous thread I am now faced with decisions about the offers I have now got.

First of all I want to thank everybody who has helped me both directly and indirectly who provided me with alot of information and personal experiences.

For those who have not read previously I want to work in a university position located in the centre of a city, which has a good social and nightlife for a male in his early 20's.

To summarise the positions;

Jingmen, Hubei - Jingchu University of Technology
4000rmb
16 hours
Private accommodation paid, a-z utilities all paid for except internet/phone
(for some reason I am drawn to this city I feel it suits me it's just that I find it a bit strange I did not have a phone interview)

Jingzhou, Hubei - Yangtze University
4000rmb
14-16 hours
Private accommodation everything paid for
(This looks like a large university with campuses everywhere so I am just worried about where I would be located)

So if you have any feedback or personal experiences please let me know

Thanks Smile

i would be careful about the hubei cities if u are looking for night life... they are pretty small towns and rough around the edges... kinda like a hubei version of butt fkuc nowhere... best u will find there is a KTV with a few working girls and a late night bbq... there is a good hotspring/ cave somewhere around there tho... you could take weekend trips to wuhan but 4000 a month isnt much if you like clubbing

live music is only starting to pickup in Wuhan.. just a few chinese guys around that play a little jazz/blues... the rest for the most part is crap... eastern cities seem to get lots of philo bands... you can finally get guiness and killkenny on tap here tho..

Cool Very Happy Wuhan would definitely get the odd weekend hit.

Ok forget about the Xiangtan position, it's all about Hubei province now.

This is what it boils down to;

Jingmen:
Medical not required until I enter China and this will be paid for by the university.
I am just worried about this one because I didn't get an interview.
The contract is fair but I am disappointed that I do not get free Chinese lessons.

Jingzhou:
Requires me to complete a medical exam here (at my own expense) in my home country before invitation letter can be processed. And then I will undergo another one when I am in China. A big turnoff but -
I like this position because it's a very good deal and I had a phone interview.

Jingzhou is the actual one I want but just the fact it requires a medical and Jingmen doesn't at all. Both cities I don't know much about so I guess i'm trying to determine whether forking out the 200+ for a full medical is really worth it.

Decisions, decisions Rolling Eyes

Free Chinese lessons? LOLOLOL. That's pure fiction. You wouldn't have gotten them if offered.

As for the physical, get one done by a nurse practitioner or a PA at a walk in clinic.

Perhaps being Irish is an issue; however, remember, many people here will hate you simply for being white. Drinking in bars is a great place to have lots of problems in China. No matter what the circumstances, you are wrong and you will pay because you are a WHITE "mofo".

I liked living in Hubei but would not go back as they keep offering those low wages. waht a friggin joke those wages are when you factor inflation
into the equation. Move on for a min of 6000 rmb.
