Hello everyone,
I am a newbie to KSA and have been offered a contract that looks very suspect after waiting a month for it. I have a masters, teacher's license, TEFL, and about 6 years of experience in Asia. I was supplied with a letter of intent from Al-Hussan schools to work for Saudi Aramco in their training center in Dammam. However, the contract I'm finally looking at is a bit suspect for the following reasons:
1.) Vacation time which was supposed to be after 6 months. It now says it cannot be taken until after 12 months of continuous service.
2.) There is no mention of sick days or working hours.
3.) There is no mention of reimbursement for medical test fees.
4.) There is nothing written in regard to paid holidays.
5.) There is nothing about end of service gratuity.
6.) It also states that I may be moved around from branch to branch in the Eastern Province, which I was unaware of.
I was told by the recruiter that "will do my best to resolve your concerns however think you need to make some adjustments and have some faith in my written word, we do not make up the terms of this agreement however the contract sent was standard form and used to cover many circumstances. Will try to get a letter to cover your concerns. The working hours are as quoted, 8 hours per day 5 days a week, contact hours with students about 5 hours per day, remaining hours are to work on lesson plans as per the curriculum. If Aramco decides to move you for any reason that is the case, very rarely happens but could happen so is covered in the contract. The end of service bonus or gratuity is minimum as per Saudi Labor Law which you can look up if you wish, the minimum is one half of one months base salary. Think you will find that Saudi Labor law is enforced and used by all employers, your bonus can be higher but will be at least as quoted."
Can anyone help me with some advice? Anyone working on this contract? Thanks so much. |

Hi
No idea about this outfit but the assurances and contract terms certainly look ambiguous, dodgy and completely unprofessional.

Saudi Aramco is one company and "Hussan schools" sounds like another. Saudi Aramco is a great company to have the honor to work for. Contact them through their website and see if they own "HUssan schools". I was almost scammed by people posing as the Dubai British School, and I just heard someone is trying to do the same with the American School of Madrid. When I went to a website listing all the scams, I was horrified to see that there were at least 30 different scams going on right now. The short end of the stick that educators have gotten and are still getting just got shorter! |
