Crud.
So, I had been working at an Emirati military base teaching English. I was there all of three weeks. We got our gate passes earlier this week, and mine was just revoked today. I guess one of the military officers here spoke with an officer at the Sabis Military High School, where I taught last year... Sabis seems to have enough wasta that they can get people blacklisted.
Crud.
Anyway, I'm sitting here in Dubai, and need to find a position ASAP. While I'd prefer teaching languages (any European language at this point), I'll consider any legal position. Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, whatever.
Does anyone have any thoughts? Does anyone know of a reputable school that is hiring now?
Thanks! |

Oh... obviously, private messages about job leads are appreciated; anyone wanting to discuss the day's events is free to post in the thread.
Thanks! |

rv- Check out the ADEC program. A word of warning, tho, being on a blacklist may very well extend beyond the military...

Yah... I was with the S****/C******** schools last year. They have enough wasta that I, and all of the other survivors/refugees were blacklisted through ADEC. I had great interviews with GEMS, Nord Anglia, etc., but as soon as they heard me say that my previous school had been run by S****, their voices fell. They submitted my name to ADEC, but the Ministry never approved me.
From what I've heard people who have taught with S**** can't find other academic jobs here, which is why I moved to teaching for a US company agency contracting to the local military. I'm wondering if it's worthy trying to transition to a non-teaching position here. I do like the area, and I would like to stay, despite all the ... obvious problems locally.
Stinks, doesn't it? |
