I was planning to come to Taiwan on a 60 day tourist visa from the US. Already got my plane tickets, etc. But the visa was denied...the guy at TECO insisted that I only need 30 days to visit taiwan and was convinced I was scamming him and lying to him (I wasn't). Bad mood, I can only guess.

I'm left considering the 30-day landing visa. My question: Will 30 days be enough time (even if I rush to get a job) to get a work permit? OR is the visa run inevitbale? And if I have to do a run to HK, will I just get another 30-day landing visa upon re-entering Taiwan, or can I apply for a 60 day visitor visa on my visa run? (And will I need proof of onward travel upon reentering Taiwan?)

Does anyone have experience/advice getting work and a work permit with the 30 day landing visa?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

You will need to make at least one visa run, even if you secure a job the day that you arrive.

You could either get everything together so that you can qualify for a visa to come back in to accept employment here, or you could just get another tourist visa to enable you enough time to go through the application process.

Actually, if you enter on a visitor's visa and get a job before your visa is up, you may be able to get your ARC without leaving the country, because the Police can extend it once you have proof of your job offer and ARC application (if it's extendable) - i've done this before.

I'm in a similar boat ... on a 30 day visa ... pretty sure my ARC won't be up and running in time ... which brings me to my question.

I was thinking of doing a visa run by taking one of the cruises offered off the North coast of Taiwan. Apparently it takes you into international waters which means you will get a 30 day visa again ...

Does anyone know anything about this?

Yes, you can get another landing visa by taking the cruise. If that is the best visa you can hope for at this time, then do it.

Good luck,
