Btw, my brother-in-law assured us that the test was "100% accurate".
My questions are these:
1. Do you really think that they would "detain" and require to stay in the hospital, an American citizen??!! My experience with Vietnamese is, they pretty much do what they're told, whenever the National Government gives sanction to a procedure. Bac Mai being a public hospital, I think they would adhere to government rules.
But I really can't imagine being "forced" to stay in a public-ward hospital, with 20 or 30 other people, waiting to be tested, even if half of them are my family! On the other hand, I can't imagine myself--older, outta shape, overweight--getting into a physical "altercation" with the security personnel at the hospital! They were all young women, btw, but their gender certainly didn't preclude them from disallowing people in who shouldn't be there, and throwing out people inside who didn't belong.
But "forcing" an American Citizen to stay for a week in a public hospital????!!
What are your thoughts?
2.The symtoms the doctor asked about are attendant in most viruses, including the common cold. How exactly do they test for this PARTICULAR virus? Anybody know??
Finally, I would like to find out as soon as possible about what the authorities do these days. We're flying to HCMC on Friday. A Vietnamese woman we know who is married to a Pakistani, flew from Saudi Arabia this week, to Danang. One of her babies had a fever, and according to her, they were required, upon entry in Danang's airport, to go directly to the hospital and stay for a week. I'm not sure how reliable her information is; we "met" her in Riyadh, but I "couldn't" talk to her because she has decided to embrace a Wahabi interpretation of Islam, and was thus "not allowed" to talk to me.
Thank you for your insights. |

It is a matter of national health in a fairly densely populated country so I'm sure they don't care what bird is on your passport. I presume they will take a blood test send it off and hold you until it comes back.
I would guess that those people who treat you as royalty just want your american dollars, and when they speak in their own language around you they aren't saying how cool you are, sorry bro =) |
