Can anybody tell me their experiences of changing a visa from an eikaiwa spec. in humanities to an ALT visa? How long did it take what's the process, was it tricky to do etc.? |

1. Get a job at with a dispatch company, or at a high school etc.
2. Go to immigration with your new contract (and possibly a letter from your employer) and they'll change it on the spot. There may be a fee. Or else they'll tell you what you need to do. If you don't speak Japanese, bring someone who does with you. You will probably need your letter of release from your former employer, but I've heard of NOVA people who weren't given letters of release and it ended up not being a problem.
The ALT visa is called an "instructor visa".
If you have a dispatch company, they'd be taking care of most of that stuff for you, or else tell you what to do. |

I changed my spec. in humanities visa to the instructor one with the help of my new employer. The process took only three days. The only thing Immi asked extra is to bring a letter of release when I went to pick up my visa.
Immi changed it so fast that I actually had to wait two weeks to pick it up until my contract was done with my previous employer |
