Hi everyone,
Does anyone know how long M.I.L. take to respond to applications? I can't find any info about this on their website, just that they welcome applications at all times.

I'm just reading between the lines but a school that posts that they are taking "ongoing applications" or "applications at any time" may have a high staff turnover and needs to keep a pool of applicants on standby at any time.
Not saying this place has that but that is has been known to indicate this. |

Having worked for MIL in 2000-1, I can tell you that with a large staff and 9 branches, teachers come and go. They hire as people's contracts expire, and there are around 30 teachers. People typically stay at the eikawa 1-3 years, and they do need to take applicants continuously because of this. There are many classes on the schedule to staff. When I was there we only had one person break her contract early - she arrived and returned home within 48 hours because of extreme homesickness.
It's a good place to work - I have recommended them before on this site. They are upfront and fair, honoring their contract. Just give them time to process your application and don't worry.

Thanks all, esp chinagirl.
I've read a lot of good things about this school, and a friend's sister worked for them, so I am keen to get an interview.
I didn't want to give them a call because perhaps they generally take, say, 4 weeks to process an application (I applied 2 weeks ago), and so I don't want it to look like I'm impatient or rushing them.
But now I know...thanks again all.

Boy, depending on where she had come from, her journey here and back may have exceeded her "stay" here in Japan. Expensive lesson to learn for someone. I wonder where she is now. |

| Shmooj, you're right. I believe that she was coming from somewhere in the corn belt states of the US. I was giving her an orientation on day 1 when she looked out the window at the dense neighborhood of "mansions" and pachinko parlors and burst into tears. She didn't stop crying throughout the next day, and the next thing we knew, she was gone. I guess she wasn't as adventurous as she thought! (I did feel terrible for her, though - young and innocent as a babe, that girl seemed!) |

It was you it was you. ..... only kidding. I'm sure some of the teachers I've given orientation to feel like crying though mostly they just fall asleep due to jet lag (that's my excuse anyway.)
I can just picture that scene with her gazing at the grey barrenness of Japanese suburbia. It's overwhelmed me on more than one occasion.
To her a field here must have looked like a doormat  |
